WHY

In Naoto Fukasawa’s Super Normal, he described achieving the average image of object as an approach to design.

There has been a few projects generate ‘average’ faces. What if we extend that to 3D?

If I mathematically average a number of 3D chair models, do I get an average looking chair?

HOW

10 distinct chair models are collected from online catalogs such as IKEA.Each of the models (.obj) are voxelized and rendered in python.

By tweaking the code, one can choose the level of details that will go into the final average model.

The average chair is printed with a Connex 500. Solid transparent resin holds the skeleton of chars together.
